As much as I'd really love to be around older webgeeks that I could learn alot from, I still don't have the money to travel to Stockholm… Yet.

Please make these events continue and I'll might make it some other time!

  • Cool, by then I will be all set up in sthlm. I will start working with the company that hosts this event, so I will definately attend this time. I'm hoping we could cover some programming topic and not purely front-end? Im not that down with css 😛

  • Phil Sherry says:

Albert, I'm sure we can accommodate that request. Let me look into it for you.

  • Nathan Smith says:

Cool, see you there! Actually, no – but take pictures and do podcasts.

  • Teddy says:

Like Phil says, as this thing seems to grow really fast it does make sense to maybe split up front-end and back-end discussions at some point. At this very moment nothing is written in stone so this will get interesting.

  • I'll be there of course. I mean how can I resist given the success of the first meeting!

  • Robert Nyman says:

    Kalle,

Maybe someday in the future, then… 🙂

    albert,

So you don't regard front end as programming then? 😛

But absolutely, not next time around, but in the future it definitely makes sense to have two groups discussing different topics and then afterwards all mingle together.

    Peter,

Great! See you again in June then! 🙂

  • Robert,

Of course I consider front end programming to be programming, it was just a sloppy comment. I am certainly interested in css and html semantics and technique, but at the moment my main focus is on ruby and specifically rails development, both front and back end. So I wouldnt want to have the meets simultaneosly, since I would like to attend both.

But Peter M. above is rallying the railsers for another meetup, so perhaps thats the proper venue for the ruby – rails programming agenda.

Looking forward to the geekmeet though!

  • Robert Nyman says:

    albert,

Ah, no problem at all, I was just teasing with you! 🙂

I do sincerely think it's a good idea to have separate sessions for different interests, and we will be making that happen in the future.

  • Robert

Yeah I figured as much 🙂

  • Tim Heighes says:

Well wadyaknow, I'll be there this time too as my (first of many) 'svenska kvällkurs' will be over by then! 🙂

One possible topic to interest both back end railers and front end developers is the accessibility/usability/standards compliance or otherwise of the out-of-the-box rails features. For example, you don't have the ability to add your own labels to the top of each of the date-format dropdowns, only blanks. One of the first things I did as a front end developer was get my hands 'dirty' in the rails source and overwrite the rails date-format methods to do this very thing.

  • Robert Nyman says:

    Tim,

    Great! 🙂

It might interest people, although my impression was that very few front end developers in the last meeting were working with rails at all…

  • Robert Nyman says:

    Nathan,

    Sorry, missed your comment…

Pictures, definitely. But the idea is really to drive people into coming there, so I don't think we will offer podcasts in the foreseeable future…

  • Jens Wedin says:

I´ll probably come. I´ll let you know if I can't.

  • I'll show up too (even though I rarely plan this far ahead :))

  • Of course I'll be there, looking forward to it..

  • Another note, you might want to change the title of this post since it looks like the geek meet will be june 6:th and not the 8:th. I see that you mean 2006 by ´06 in the title but not everyone will notice that I think…

  • Robert Nyman says:

    Jens, Emil, Joel,

Great, I look forward to seeing you again!

    Emil,

I see what you mean, I changed the title just to be sure.

  • Marco says:

Hmmm.. I guess I'll have to miss this one but after that I won't miss any of these anymore 😀

  • Robert Nyman says:

    Marco,

    Yeah, I know… 🙂

When will you write about it in your web page?

  • Jim Carlberg says:

I won't sing, but let me quote the fabulous Jackson 5 and say, I'll be there.

  • icaaq says:

i´m gonna be there… in time this time. I will probably grab a few of my Creuna collegues to. i´ll let you know how many in good time before the event 🙂

  • Andreas Ehn says:

    I'll be there. Great initiative!

  • Kristina Ulander says:

I've heard about this great initiative and I'm looking forward to join, so count me in. 😀

  • MÃ&Acir says:

The Geek Meet sounds like a great idea!

Especially when you live out in the woods and only have the occasional elk to talk Geek Speek with… :o)

I feel like a real stranger but I thought I would drop a note anyway.

Since I am on parental leave I will have some difficulties to attend to the party but it seems to be great fun and as an old novice it feels like an excellent place to get some serious knowledge while meeting interesting people.

    Cheers!

  • Magnus Hult says:

If it's not too late, I'd like to join. I'm not 100 % sure I can make it, but probably. Nice initiative by the way!

  • Martin S. says:

    I might come too. 🙂
