Speaker change

Due to illness, Marco won’t be able to speak. The replacements are Kristina Alexanderson (@kalexanderson), talking about Creative Commons, and Robert Nyman talking about Firefox OS.

Time for the last Geek Meet before summer! Happy to have a new perspective this time, and something we haven’t really covered before: accessibility.

Introducing Marco Zehe

Marco Zehe is the QA engineer for accessibility at Mozilla, and an accessibility evangelist with almost twenty years of experience in the field of assistive technologies for people with disabilities. He tests, advises on best techniques to use to make web sites accessible to people who are blind or who have other disabilities, and regularly talks at conferences.

He is also blogging with Marco’s accessibility blog.

The presentations

Marco will give two presentations during the evening:

Talk 1: Accessibility: What is it and what does it look like on the web?

A general overview, and also demonstrating a web browser and screen reader on both a desktop and mobile device.

Talk 2: Accessibility on the web – Easy practical tips you can use right away

Going through some common and not too difficult things to be aware of and implement to make sites more accessible. Additionally, providing some pointers to good web resources on the topic.

Time & place

This Geek Meet will be sponsored by Creuna, and will take place May 7th at 18:00 in their office at Kungsholmsgatan 23 in Stockholm. Creuna will also provide beer/wine and pizza to every attendee, all free of charge.

Optional donation

At the door of the event, we will have open donations to Easy Chirp. This means that they are completely optional, but much appreciated!
Easy Chirp makes Twitter accessible to users with disabilities, which we believe is a worthy cause.
