Dutch developers

Today I want to share a revelation I’ve just had: there are so many talented Dutch developers out there! I just wonder why it is so. Normally, it seems to depend on the climate of people’s country; for a natural reason Sweden has got a higher percentage of web developers than Italy (this is merely an educated guess, I have no numbers to back it up).

But the Netherlands? Sure, they get their fair amount of rain (and flowers, windmills and clogs), but I see no apparent reason why skilled people seem to be concentrated there. They have, as far as I know, a pretty warm climate otherwise.

Dutch developers whose blogs I try to read frequently are:

Peter-Paul Koch
Peter, please make sure that the URL quirksmode.org goes to your web site as well (without the “www”).
Anne van Kesteren
Wiz-kid.
Faruk Ates
A fighter for XHTML.
Ben
Well, yes, Ben isn’t in Holland right now, but he originates from there.
Jeroen Mulder
Jeroen, what’s up with the dead links in the navigation bar?

Yes, I know, a weird post. Just a tiny reflection I felt I should write about…
Have a nice weekend, and don’t miss my next post on Monday!

    How about:

    Mark Wubben, Javascript wizard;
    Egor Kloos, developer of the famous CSS Zen Garden design “Gemination“;
    Didier Hilhorst, design genius
    And so many others….

    As for myself, XHTML has only been the current focus, due to the ongoing debate, but my site (or just, myself) is focused globally on Web Standards-based development using CSS and semantic markup, and design principles and philosophies.

    But thanks for the compliment πŸ™‚

  • Love you too, hun. πŸ˜‰

    And they're not dead links! They're just not working.. hehe. Seriously now, they've never worked. I intended on launching the site and continue developing it from there, but like most of my other promising ideas, I never delivered — I've just been too busy. I really should deliver as it's bad PR for myself.

    But yes, it's interesting how many Dutch people you can find in every community. We're a small country, but we're an extremely active bunch on the internet.

    Another Dutch designer/developer I'd like to throw in is Rob Mientjes ( <a href="http://www.zooibaai.nl)” target=”_blank”>www.zooibaai.nl)

    Jeroen,

    Yes, Rob is another one.

    Here in Sweden, I really only know about Tommy, Roger and I that frequently blog about web interface related stuff (in English).

    (By the way, I linked your URL to Rob's web site)

  • Anne says:

    Heh, and there you forgot <abbr>sIFR</abbr> man Mark Wubben!

  • Robert says:

    Faruk,

    I know you focus on other things too, but that's what you've gotten attention for, hence what I wanted to label you with! πŸ™‚

    Faruk, Anne,

    Apparently I missed some! πŸ™‚

    For some reason, I was under the impression that Mark was British, but now I know better!
