  • Good thing that article is located in the "Opinion" section, because it's largely absurd. I think Mr. Andrew Keen REALLY needs to get out of Silicon Valley for a while and revisit the real world. πŸ˜‰

  • I totally agree to Jared. I mean, hey, the simple idea of everyone using video-music-director-author stuff just because it is there is, to be honest, simply absurd.

On the other hand, I completely agree to the comparison of Web 2.0 to communism. In my opinion, communism would be the best economy form (uuh … how do you say that in English?), but as mankind is just greedy in general, capitalism works. But on the web, where there is no money or anything else that justifies greedyness, everyone is sharing and giving his part to the community: communism par excellence.

Yes, it's definitely some interesting comments, I'll say that much… πŸ™‚

funny thing with most ideologies which tend to romantisize "power to the people" concepts (in any form or shape) is they tend to fail because of the very "people" they are trying to empower.

I work as a consultant is the social services and to this day I'm still surprised that the majority of people I want to be told what to do and generally prefer not to think for themselves. (And I'm aware I'll sound like a right old snob, but it's really just my day to day experience.) So I'm afraid real life will differ considerably from the idealistic views presented by the web2.0 gang.

    Robert de Mildt,

It is true, many people think it's too much of a hassle to think and act for themselves. Oh well, all we can do is wait and see. πŸ™‚

  • What a load of crap:

"Just as Marx seduced a generation of European idealists with his fantasy of self-realization in a communist utopia, so the Web 2.0 cult of creative self-realization has seduced everyone in Silicon Valley."

I've never heard such a load of garbage in my whole life. Even if the idea is deemed as 'communist', then what's wrong with that? It makes for a change from all this capitalist junk spreading throughout our web.

Open source and Web 2.0 are here to stay, it's becomming even more popular because people are willing to at least try to learn and use it. The web has already benefited greatly from this, it has thrived & even capitalist companies like Microsoft are investing millions in it.

What are you worried about ppl – the worst tht can happen is that the interent is stormed by communist nerds!

    Matthew,

Open source and Web 2.0 are here to stay

    Absolutely, I think so too.

  • I found a really really great article concerning this stupid text. Unfortunately (that is SO sad), it's in German. I hope the Google translation at least works partially or here are some other German-speaking readers (ok, at least Jens Meiert ;)). It can be found here:

    SilentWarrior,

Thanks! I need to dust off my German skills and get a grip, so I can truly enjoy it! πŸ™‚
