Surprise album of the year: W.A.S.P. – Dominator

Remember the 80s, and a band called W.A.S.P.? Most people knew about them back then, but since then it has been awfully quiet about them. That is, until now!

A friend recently recommended me to listen to their brand new album, Dominator, and as soon as I had heard it once, I was blown away. It is really good! Some songs are just good, but other ones like Mercy, The Burning Man and especially Heaven’s Hung in Black are great!

So, if you like heavy metal, I definitely recommend taking a listen to it; you will be pleasantly surprised!

Don't forget what they also made in past few years. Neon God part 1 & 2 were also very good. W.A.S.P. still remains to be one of my favourite bands. It's amazing how they seems to keeep the past alive, while reinventing themselves over and over.

The biggest surprise for me was that Dominator was even better then expected.

Mate, I could go with your recommendation for Bob Dylan. But W.A.S.P.?!?!?!

I hear Europe and Motley Crue are releasing albums too …

I've been reading your site for a while now, and maybe it's a shame I comment on music rather than web stuff (really good libraries by the way)… But I love W.A.S.P., and you're the second person saying their new album is really good, so I think I'll try and get it.

I gave up on Neon God: Part 1 didn't impress me that much, so I didn't even buy Part 2. I thought Dying for the World was really powerful, and K.F.D. was rather ballsy (?) for a band like W.A.S.P. And of course, The Idol is the best song they've ever written, IMHO.

(talking about come back in great shape, I'm listening to Type O Negative's Dead Again right now, it feels good hearing them with so much energy, finally!)

    Maarten,

I’ve just missed out on them since, the 80s, to be honest. But given the quality of Dominator, I definitely need to check through their back catalog.

    bruce,

    Ha ha! 🙂
I’m a metal guy, you know! Actually, I do like Mötley Crüe, especially their early work. And as a matter of fact, June 5th I will see their concert in Stockholm. 🙂

    Ced-le-pingouin,

Thanks! And don’t worry, I’m just glad that you want to comment at all. 🙂

And yeah, in my opinion, you really should give Dominator a try!

I like Neurosis a lot. And Prong!

  • Robert Nyman says:

    Johan,

Cool. I've never heard them, actually.

  • Johan says:

My guess, you would like Prong if you dig Iron Maiden, Ramones, Black Sabbath, Metallica (their early stuff).

Neurosis tends to be rather heavy and Prong is one of my best live gigs I ever saw. I never saw that much coming out of band. Guitars and Singing, it was beyond me…

  • Johan says:

Here is a link to some Prong videos: http://www.uvtv.info/prong.php

  • Robert Nyman says:

    Johan,

In that case, it sure sounds interesting. I'll have to check them out then.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on the new Dominator album and after my first listen through I knew this was going to be another milestone for W.A.S.P. I'm not sure that they can ever accomplish again what they did with The Crimson Idol, but Dominator stands on its own as far as I'm concerned. I'm not sure how many more years Blackie has in him, but if he keeps putting out surprises like Dominator, I'll keep buyin them!

Mercy, Long Long Way To Go, Take Me Up and Heaven's Blessed rocked my ass off.

  • Robert Nyman says:

    James,

I'm glad you like it too! 🙂
