Taxation of my daughter
The other day I got a letter from the Swedish Tax Authority in regards to taxation of my daughter Emilia.
This is Emilia.
Emilia is four years old, just an innocent child. But apparently the Tax Authority thinks she’s a little finance shark, and deemed that she owned them money.
Apparently, Emilia made 5 Swedish kronor last year (approximately US$0.76), and they taxed her for 2 Swedish kronor (US$0.30). Also, she has no way of reclaiming this tax, since the Tax Authority only make payments of sums of 100 kronor (US$15.20). I have a few questions about that:
- Isn’t the tax level a bit high for a four-year old child?
- How much did the postage stamp cost for sending us this letter with the information?
- How come the authority has the right to take money, and keep them till the sum is high enough to reach their return payments limit?
This is hilarious but it also a shame for swedish authorities and all the money they waste.
How the hell did they know she made 5 kr? Isnt childwork illegal in this country?
Now this is just absurd! Hoping that someone placed at those levels/that department eventually will read this and see that they're doin' it wrong.
Awesome 😀 Will you please make sure that your countries' authorities get their money, Robert? 😉
That is exactly what happened to my 2 year old son yesterday. Welcome to Sweden.
Similar thing happened to me in the US. My son was taxed on an overpayment on his education savings. Due to this, I had to fill out a tax return for a 3 year old.
Don't mind paying the penalty but a tax return for a 3 year old?
Never heard of anything like this, totally bizarre!
They're recouping the cost of mandating the 3 months vacation that you took just recently! 😉
Well, I think was interest in a bank account.
We're right on it. 🙂
Oh, interesting! I kinda thought it would happen to others as well…
Ha ha ha! 😀
Same shit here, my six-year-old son Hannes got a letter as well, telling him the government owns him the blinding amount of SEK 37.00!
I had no idea he'd done his taxation on his own AND in time this year, maybe he's a wizkid disguised as a Pokemon fan?
Personally, I think we should give the 37 away to charity. To the U.S financial market perhaps…
Awww, Emilia is so cute ^_^
See, they're on to our kids! 🙂
With your comment, does that mean that Hannes' dad isn't as good ad taxating in time? 😉
Thank you, I think so too! 😀
